The Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) has received a £14,844.84 donation from grant giving animal charity Support Adoption For Pets.
The money will go towards a sensory garden and exercise area for dogs at the SSPCA’s centre in Edinburgh.
Centre manager, Diane Aitchison, said the group was “humbled and delighted” to receive the “incredible amount” from the charity, and added: “The funds will go towards creating a sensory garden and to resurface and partially cover the exercise area for the dogs in our care.
“Often, dogs arrive with very little life experience outside of a kennel environment. This is particularly relevant with puppy farmed dogs. The sensory garden will provide a safe, quiet area for dogs to find sanctuary but will also incorporate many different experiences that encourage use of their senses.”
She continued: “We cannot thank Pets at Home enough for its continued friendship and support and Support Adoption For Pets for this amazing donation. It’s going to change the lives of dogs that come into our care and better prepare them for finding their loving, forever home.”
Laura Messenger, grant funding coordinator at Support Adoption For Pets, said: “It is a real privilege to be able to help such an important organisation that works tirelessly to care for and rehome pets in need.
“They are doing a remarkable job, and we’re delighted to be able to support them so that they are able to continue helping more pets in need.”
She added: “In 2006 Pets at Home founded the charity Support Adoption For Pets. Since then it has helped more than 1,000 rehoming centres and animal welfare organisations across the UK. In addition to its fundraising work, it also runs dedicated adoption centres in Pets at Home stores.”
