Buddy Bites partners with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

Pet food brand Buddy Bites has announced its partnership with The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. The first UK partnership for the pet food brand, having just reached the UK shores after four years supporting shelters in Asia, Buddy Bites’ mission is to give back to the dog community and support dog shelters across the world. For every 2kg of food ordered in the UK, Buddy Bites will give 1kg of their premium kibble to the home and will donate any unused bags to the 81 foodbanks that the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home support across Central and Eastern Scotland. The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home stated that this support is “incredibly welcome”, as it is currently facing huge pressure with demand for its services at an all-time high. Staggering operational costs coupled with an increase in surrenders and use of food banks means that the support provided through this new partnership with Buddy Bites will aid dogs and families in desperate need. Last year saw record-breaking pressures on the charity, with nearly 400 new admissions between September 2023 and August 2024 and increasing costs reaching £7,000 per day to keep the home going. Over the same period, the home distributed 44,960kg of pet food to food banks across Central and East Scotland. The home supplies the food banks with cat and dog food to support families in desperate need. Without food bank support from the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, some pet owners would be forced to surrender their beloved dog or cat. However, the home said that capacity at the home itself is at a maximum and if even 1% of animals supported by foodbanks had been surrendered to the home, they would be beyond capacity and be forced to turn them away. Buddy Bites is also offering a food bag to each dog who is adopted through the home as maintaining continuity in feeding is so important for a dog’s gut health. Lindsay Fyffe Jardine, CEO of the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, said: “We are thrilled that Buddy Bites has chosen the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to become their first UK partner. This partnership is of huge importance to us and as well as greatly benefitting the dogs of the Home, our relationship with Buddy Bites will also be of enormous value to the communities we support. “The pet food bank service which is used as a lifeline by so many will receive an extremely welcome boost in donations so we are so pleased that the partnership will extend beyond the walls of the Home and support dogs across Central and Eastern Scotland.” Chris Lee, co-founder of Buddy Bites, added: “My co-founder (Ryan) grew up in Edinburgh, so was already aware of the work that the Home do and supporting a shelter close to home was very appealing. When we came to visit Jamie and the team, we realised that it would be a fantastic fit. “The public demand for their services and the eye-watering food bills that go with that, meant that there was an obvious value add for us to offer. By covering all the food needed for dogs at the Home and also providing food to sustain the pet food bank, we can free up much needed funds that can be allocated elsewhere.”
