Over 70% of pets are fed one type of food daily

Over 70% of Brits are feeding their pets just one type of food daily according to data from Harringtons.
Owners are worried about changing their pets’ diet in case it causes potential side effects or impacts their happiness, such as causing an upset stomach (24%).
Despite these worries, over a third (38%) believe that their furry friends should be able to enjoy a variety of foods and flavours.
The survey found that wet food remains the top choice of pet food (24%), closely followed by dry kibble (21%).
Alongside this, 41% of households provide variety for their pets by mixing wet and dry food in a single bowl and 39% serve them separately to suit their pet’s preferences.
Sarah McNamara, senior pet nutritionist, said: “With everything in moderation, providing variety in pets’ lives is important and mixed feeding is a fantastic way to nourish their health. Not only can it help keep your pet engaged during feeding time, but it can help to improve hydration, and palatability and maintain their dental hygiene.
“Varied feeding is another way to give pets extra goodness in their bowls with natural food and nutrition, but since some can suffer from sensitive stomachs, there are certain steps pet owners can follow to gradually introduce new foods into their pets’ diet while ensuring they’re still getting essential vitamins and nutrients for their development.”
