Raw pet food business, Mersey Raw that has seen an impressive 300% growth rate in its first two years of business hitting ยฃ1m worth of sales, has recently undergone a major re-brand and re-design of its packaging as part of its strategy to focus on the retail side of the business.
After extensive customer research amongst customers and other consumers of raw pet food, Mersey Raw has come up with a range of packaging that meets all the requirements of the research findings for sustainability, functionality, practicality and stackability.
Mersey Rawโs new packaging consists of tubs made from Polypropylene (PP5), a high-quality, durable, lightweight, and food-safe material that ensures hygiene and safety for raw pet food.
By switching to a semi-transparent white design, Mersey Raw has made their tubs widely recyclable, solving the issue of the previous black tubs, which were not recyclable at all UK recycling facilities.
According to the group, the semi-transparent white tubs are also “stronger, leak-proof and more reliable, ensuring the food stays fresh and secure during transport and storageโ.
The new colour-coded labels aim to improve product visibility, making it easier for customers to quickly identify different products, whether on shelves or in freezers.
The labels also provide clear, detailed information about the product composition and nutritional analysis, helping pet parents understand exactly what theyโre feeding their pets.
Each label features a QR code, which links to more information about the brand, the products, and the benefits of raw feeding.
With lack of space in freezers being an issue for many raw feeders, the tubs are designed to be stackable.
Founded by Liverpool entrepreneur Ben McIntyre, Mersey Raw currently offers 20 varieties of meat, offal and bone minces which stick very much to the core principles of feeding the raw diet using quality human grade meats such as chicken, pork, lamb, beef, venison, turkey, rabbit, duck, tripe, goose and even goat.
They also offer a comprehensive range of natural treats. All meat is DEFRA approved and with 20 recipes to choose from.
McIntyre said: โI did not initially set out to start a Raw Dog Food company. I simply created raw minces for my own dogs, (Luna a four-year old German Shepherd and Pluto a five-year old French Bull Dog,) and then family and friends asked me to do the same for them and then from there it really started to grow. A local shop was given samples and immediately placed an order which meant I had to get approval from DEFRA, register with the local council and secure premises to start supplying our products. It took around four months to achieve this. That is how Mersey Raw was born. We now have a portfolio of 90 shops and a direct customer base of over 7,000
