Compare Cover has launched its pet insurance comparison service, adding to its life and travel insurance offering.
The addition of pet insurance marks the next stage of growth for the Penrith-based insurance comparison service.
Commenting on the launch of this new service, Simon Williams, product manager for pet and travel insurance at Compare Cover, said: “Pet insurance can be a confusing product for pet owners, with only a third of those who have dogs taking out insurance and just 16 percent of cat owners*.
“It’s important that pet owners understand the level of cover they have in place and we intend to work with insurance companies to improve the transparency and clarity of policies so that customers can buy this valuable product with confidence”.
Simon added: “The price of pet insurance has been steadily rising, but with the average size of claims increasing significantly in 2016*, reaching £750 up from £600 in 2014, as a pet owner it makes sense to consider insurance as a way to protect against what can be very large bills”.
