Birmingham Dogs Home is celebrating 125 years of rehoming dogs across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire. Since the charity was founded in 1892, it has rescued, reunited and rehomed more than 100,000 dogs.
The charity launched in 1892 when land was made available by Sir Alfred Gooch Bart in New Canal Street, Birmingham to build the city’s first ever dogs home. In 2015, it opened a new £6 million state-of-the-art centre in Solihull in 2015.
To celebrate its 125th birthday, Birmingham Dogs Home has unveiled a commemorative poster featuring more than 125 dogs that the charity has rehomed, which have been sent in by its facebook followers.
Acting Chief Executive, Areika Bickerton commented: “We are delighted to celebrate our 125th birthday. It’s a fantastic achievement how far we’ve come over the years and this would not have been possible without the help of our volunteers and supporters – Ancol Pet Products, Pedigree, Thomson Airways, Pets at Home, Support Adoption For Pets, Jollyes, St Georges Vets and many more.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support from the general public and look forward to working with our supporters and volunteers for many years to come.
