10 dog breeds ‘too dangerous’ to be a family pet, claims politician
A politician has caused uproar within the pet community in response to him admitting he is responsible for ‘dangerous dogs’ signs that warn of ten breeds ‘too dangerous’ for families.
Alan Tobin, current member of Meath County Council, Ireland, claimed on his facebook page “As a dog owner I’m absolutely delighted that signs I’ve asked for, with pictures, showing the dangerous breeds of dogs have been erected over the past week.
“It still amazes me that some people think these dogs are ideal family pets.”
The sign itself claims that popular breeds such as the Staffordshire bull terrier and the Akita need to be muzzled and walked by someone over the age of 16.
This has been slammed by animal lovers who have commented 268,000 times on the post to Tobin’s facebook page. As well as it being shared nearly 160,000 times on the social media page.
Sara Ward has taken to the comments to share an image of her German shepherd cuddled up with a small kitten claiming: “You really are an uneducated moron. I’m embarrassed for you.”
Louise Slevin, a veterinary nurse, commented on the post saying: “As a veterinary nurse, I can agree there is no such thing as a dangerous dog breed it all depends on how a dog is raised.”
Alan Tobin has been contacted to make a comment on the response from owners.
