Royal Canin® names Rescue Cat of the Year

Tabby cat Mr. Norris from Sunny Harbour Rescue Centre in Fife has been crowned ROYAL CANIN®’s Rescue Cat of the Year 2015.

Over 500 rescue cats competed for the title and 50 finalists were selected. Members of the public voted over an eight week period, and Mr. Norris received the most votes – although victory was a close-run thing, with the top five cats all in contention right up until voting closed.

Mr Norris overcame adversity in the form of a cleft palate which was so severe that vets thought him unlikely to survive. Sunny Harbour staff hand-reared the pet, and provided two rounds of major surgery to ensure he could live a normal life without suffering nasal problems due to the cleft.

Mr. Norris’ prize is a selection of ROYAL CANIN® goodies, and Sunny Harbour Rescue Centre will receive a month’s worth of food for 50 cats.

Rescue Cat of the Year is part of ROYAL CANIN®’s ongoing Fabulous Felines initiative, designed to attract cat owners into the specialist pet trade. Cats and kittens go to their new homes with a ROYAL CANIN® pack which contains information, advice, and vouchers for redemption with a local pet shop.

Sian Holt, ROYAL CANIN® Rescue Key Account Manager, says: “Mr. Norris is a worthy winner, and we are delighted to be able to focus on cat rescue centres in this way. Sunny Harbour has gained valuable local publicity from his win, and we hope Mr. Norris and his fellow felines enjoy their prizes. From the specialist pet trade perspective, rescue centres represent an important source of new business, so by working with them ROYAL CANIN® is aiming to support good lifelong nutrition for these cats as well as increasing sales.”
