OATA relaunches biosecurity assessment tool
Invasive Species Week is an annual event to raise awareness of invasive non-native species and how everyone can help prevent their spread

The Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association (OATA) has announced that it is relaunching its Business Biosecurity Self-Assessment Tool, now redesigned as a streamlined, easy-to-use online survey.
The updated tool guides businesses through a series of simple, tick-box statements covering key areas such as supply chains, quarantining procedures, hygiene measures, wastewater management, and health checks.
It’s designed to prompt reflection on current practices and highlight areas where improvements can be made.
The survey takes just a couple of minutes to complete. At the end, businesses receive an instant overview of their biosecurity status, along with a detailed summary delivered straight to their inbox. This summary can be used alongside OATA’s comprehensive Biosecurity Guide.
OATA has announced the relaunch of this tool to coincide with Spring pond season and Invasive Species Week.
Invasive Species Week is an annual event to raise awareness of invasive non-native species and how everyone can help prevent their spread.
From 12-18 May, activities and events will be held across England, Guernsey, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
According to the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat, invasive non-native species (plants and animals) cost the economy nearly £2bn per year, threatening the survival of native wildlife and our natural ecosystems.
