PIF and NBR partner to help pet businesses protect their brand identity
The service includes up to £10,000 in legal assistance, offering expert support to businesses facing disputes over their name

The Pet Industry Federation (PIF) has partnered with the National Business Register (NBR) to help pet businesses safeguard their brand identity and prevent unauthorised use of their trading name.
Registering a business name with NBR provides essential protection against ‘passing off’ – a legal issue that arises when another business attempts to trade under a similar or identical name, potentially misleading customers.
As part of the registration process, NBR conducts a comprehensive search to ensure the name is available and can be legally protected.
In cases where another business starts trading under the same name within the same sector and location, NBR will assess potential passing-off claims and provide representation where necessary.
The service includes up to £10,000 in legal assistance, offering expert support to businesses facing disputes over their name.
Through the partnership, NBR is providing PIF members with an exclusive 25% discount on its services.
The news comes after PIF announced the launch of its new Customer Service Excellence course last month, designed specifically for professionals in the UK pet industry.
The course aims to equip businesses with the skills to enhance customer relationships and handle complaints effectively.
