MVS opens new Pain Management Clinic in Northwest England
After the initial assessment, a tailored management plan will be created to improve the patient’s pain and quality of life

Manchester Veterinary Specialists (MVS) is set to open a new Pain Management Clinic for cats and dogs in the Northwest of England, who may need specialist treatment.
The new clinic will offer an individualised and comprehensive approach to pain management.
It will treat patients with; chronic pain – such as osteoarthritis, neck, back and facial pain; along with those suffering nerve or muscular pathologies, cancer pain, neuropathic pain or pain associated with certain neurological conditions.
The clinic is being run by Oscar Bautista, a trained specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
To ensure a holistic approach, he will also work closely with the hospital’s team of orthopaedic surgeons and experienced nurses, to diagnose and treat each animal.
Cats and dogs coming to the MVS clinic will first have a consultation that will involve a thorough review of each pet’s background, living conditions, current medications, diet, and levels of activity and exercise.
This will allow for a comprehensive evaluation of each patient’s condition and pain. After the initial assessment, a tailored management plan will be created to improve the patient’s pain and quality of life.
MVS will also offer a range of treatments for the management of chronic pain. This may include adjustments to medications, acupuncture, lifestyle modifications, or referrals to other specialists – such as its orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists, or physical therapists.
Bautista said: “Many cats and dogs will experience pain – especially as many animals are now living longer. And we are aware that some cases can be very challenging to diagnose and treat, when both the local vet and owner have attempted various different therapies and are getting desperate.
“These difficult cases need to be thoroughly investigated to ensure that the cause of pain is properly identified and the right treatment provided – as instigating early management can help to reduce and regulate pain.
He added: “So we are very pleased to be able to open our new Pain Management Clinic. With our specialist facilities and equipment – along with our in-depth knowledge of multidisciplinary approaches – we hope that it will provide an essential service for cat and dog owners in the Northwest.”
