Clasado enters pet nutrition market with Bimuno Pet
With increasing interest in prebiotics for animal health, Clasado aims to bring its extensive expertise in microbiome science to support pet nutrition businesses and their formulation teams
Berkshire-based Clasado Biosciences, a global leader in the development of scientifically proven prebiotic ingredients and product solutions for the gut microbiome, has entered into the pet nutrition market with the launch of Bimuno Pet.
Bimuno Pet is an identity that formulators can use on-pack to distinguish the pet health prebiotic focus from human health and nutrition. The move marks a significant expansion of its focus beyond human health and nutrition, as demand for gut health solutions for pets grows.
The company’s proprietary prebiotic ingredient, Bimuno GOS, is renowned as the most studied prebiotic in the GOS (galactooligosaccharides) category, supported by over 120 scientific publications, including more than 20 clinical trials.
The efficacy of Bimuno GOS has been demonstrated in areas of gastrointestinal health, bowel health, immune health and immune defence. Adding further advantages for formulators, Bimuno GOS is associated with pet nutrition-specific health claims in certain markets, such as China and Taiwan, which can be used on-pack and in marketing materials.
According to intelligence firm Research and Markets, the global pet food market is expected to reach a value of $161.6bn (£124.7bn) by 2028, at a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2%.
With increasing interest in prebiotics for animal health, Clasado aims to bring its extensive expertise in microbiome science to support pet nutrition businesses and their formulation teams.
Per Rehné, CEO of Clasado, said: “For two decades, Clasado has been at the forefront of prebiotic research and development, primarily focused on human health applications. As we mark our 20th anniversary, we’re using our gut microbiome expertise to support the rapidly growing pet nutrition sector. This move represents a natural evolution for our business and an opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of companion animals.”
Steven Riley, head of B2B and Corporate Marketing at Clasado, added: “The pet nutrition market is seeing a surge in demand for gut health supporting products, driven by the increasing awareness of the microbiome by the wider market. We can meet this demand head-on, applying our extensive knowledge of prebiotic galactooligosaccharides to support animal health.
“It’s an exciting time for our growing team; the pet nutrition market is growing at speed as owners seek to continually improve their pets’ quality of life. Gut health forms a natural area of focus in this regard, and of course, prebiotics. We’re looking forward to collaborating with animal health brands and their formulation teams to develop microbiome-supporting products for pet health that make a difference.”
