Pets Corner celebrates 10 years as ‘world’s only’ carbon neutral pet retailer

In addition, the store recycles more packaging than any other retailer, with 50% of its dry food packaging made from recyclable materials

Pets Corner has celebrated 10 years as the “world’s only” carbon neutral pet retailer.

Over the past decade, the retailer has been taking “significant and effective” steps to mitigate its environmental impact; by using renewable electricity, sending zero waste to landfill, and encouraging its brands to move to recyclable packaging.

Pets Corner said that in one year it has been able to save “1,493 tonnes of carbon”, which is the equivalent of “powering 171 homes for an entire year or driving a diesel car around the world 1406 times”.

Dean Richmond, founder of Pets Corner, said: “I strongly believe that business should be a force for good and help the communities it trades in. Our environmental policies are just part of this DNA that runs through Pets Corner and it is something I really care about.

“For many years now we have over insulated our stores, only used Led lighting and lit and heated our stores only using renewable electricity.”

He added: “We also take pride in our stores’ appearance, with our commitment to ‘green up’ the area as much as possible, planting hedges and climbers to make our stores look beautiful and help the surrounding environment.”
