Vets raise money for Sport Relief 2018

Scarsdale Vets will be raising money for Sport Relief 2018 in a unique way as vets take on pets in a water-based challenge on Tuesday 20 March 2018.

Human teams from across Scarsdale’s eight first opinion practices, farm and equine unit and referral hospital will be running a combined (and timed) mile on a water-filled treadmill at Pride Veterinary Centre, while their canine companions and patients will be logging their water treadmill and hydrotherapy pool miles across the course of week, all to raise money for Sport Relief and of course to find out which species is top dog.

Over 30 members of staff (in teams of four) from all areas of the business will be taking on the challenge, including: vets; nurses; groomers from the on-site pet resort; hydrotherapists; marketing and HR personnel and partners.

This fundraising idea was the brainchild of Tamsyn Lafferty, chartered physiotherapist and veterinary physiotherapist, and Frances Bird, a partner at Scarsdale who is also a Resident in Small Animal Surgery.

Tamsyn explains more: “We wanted to do something fun for Sport Relief that both vets and their pets can get involved in. A lot of staff at Scarsdale have their own pets, many of whom love to swim in our hydrotherapy pool when they get chance! So, I thought, why not use the pool and treadmill to find out who can run a mile in water the fastest for a bit of fun, raising money at the same time?”
