Pet supply store hit by huge fire

A pet supply store based in Yate, has been hit by a huge fire.

Fire crews from Yate, Kingswood, Temple, Thornbury, Portishead and Bedminster fire stations were called to a large fire in a warehouse used as a pet supply store.

The warehouse was evacuated by Avon Fire and Rescue. Crews in breathing apparatus used jets and high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire.

Thermal imaging cameras are in use to monitor hot spots on the building.

The company released the following statement: “Following a major fire at the warehouse of AJM Pet Products the company would like to thank Avon Fire & Rescue, and Avon & Somerset Police for all their efforts over the last few days.

“The safety of our staff is our primary priority and we are pleased to report that everyone evacuated the building safely.

“Andrew Pierce, managing director and his team wish to thank customers, suppliers, the pet trade community and all well-wishers for their support. He is also very grateful to neighbouring companies for their support and assistance at this difficult time, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“The company is co-operating with investigators as they look to establish the cause of the fire.

“Staff and suppliers are working hard to minimise the regrettable disruption to our many loyal and longstanding customers.”

Pet Supplies UK wrote on facebook to say: “Terrible day for Yate today, the fire devastating AJM Pet Products, a pet wholesaler in our community. A lovely group of people who don’t deserve this. All the best to Andrew and all his team”

A J Furniture & Beds who is based on the same estate said: “Absolutely gutted for our fellow business owners AJM Pet Products – glad you all are safe.”
