Two baby iguanas stolen from pet shop

Two baby iguanas have been stolen from a Nuneaton pet shop.

Martins Pet Supplies discovered the two were missing on Wednesday 12th.

A statement on the shops facebook page read: “This morning (Wednesday 12th) somebody has BROKEN into the vivariums and STOLEN one baby green iguana and one baby red iguana!

“These reptiles require a lot of expertise care and with the interest of the animals welfare it is very important we get these guys back before they get into the wrong hands!

“If you have any information or get offered these please contact us immediately! Thank you in advance.”

Chris Martin, who runs the shop, told the Nuneaton News:“These are only baby iguanas and they need to be in vivariums with heat and UV lights to survive.

“They also have a special diet, they are vegetarians, they only really eat salad. They need to be looked after properly.”

Mr Martin told the local newspaper: “We’d just had a delivery, so we were at the front of the store,”

“The vivariums displays are at the back and are locked, and we never normally have a problem, so the person who took them knew that they would have to get a key to get to them.

“It is not what they (the iguanas) are worth, it is the fact that they need to be looked after properly that bothers me.”

“We think the man who stole them spoke to my assistant when he first came in, he spoke to her about snakes, probably to gain her confidence and then, when we were busy with the delivery, he must have put the iguanas in his coat and just walked out.

“I think they must have been stolen to order, or something like that, but we just want them back now.”
