Bozita has recalled five of its dried cat food products because the protein content was above advertised quantities.
The recall has happened after a feed component was omitted in the production process, giving the products a higher protein content than their specifications.
Having a higher protein content than specified makes the food more difficult for cats to digest, potentially causing stomach disturbance and changing the balance of intestinal bacteria.
In a product withdrawal notice the company stated: “Due to a deviation in our dosing system there has been an issue of a lost raw material, bakery wheat flour, in the food which gives a slightly higher protein content than our specification.
“This makes the product more difficult to digest for your cat and can lead to a disturbance in the stomach and intestinal flora. If your cat has eaten the products mentioned above but not shown any symptoms, there is no reason for concern.
“Cats are individuals and have different sensitivity in their stomach and intestinal flora. If you have concerns, we always recommend to contact your veterinarian.
“We at the Bozita team, take discrepancies in our production very seriously and have now identified and solved the cause for the deviation.
“We deeply regret the incident and urge customers who purchased the affected product to immediately contact our customer service for help with a complaint.”
